Schuylkill upset bid comes up short as Lycoming secures win late, 99-86.

Penn State Schuylkill opened their 2018-19 campaign on the road in the Dutch Birch Classic against host Lycoming College. Lycoming was 18-1 in their previous Dutch Birch openers, Penn State Schuylkill gave them all they could handle as the Lions led early in the first half.

Schuylkill ended the opening period tied with the Warriors (1-0 overall), 39-39, as the teams fought through six ties and seven lead changes in the first half.
 
After a back-and-fourth start to the second half, Schuylkill held a 75-74 lead with 4:53 left. Lycoming went on the largest run of the night, sparked by a deep 3-point basket by Calvin Chandler, followed by a fast-break dunk by Darius James, as Lycoming closed the game on a 25-11 spurt. 
 
The Lions were led by Khari Thompson, who finished the game with 22 points and nine rebounds. William Santiago had 18 points, canning five 3-pointers, and Justin Alverez posted 16 points and five rebounds. Lamonttea Brown posted five assists.

 

Schuylkill will take on New Rochelle in the consolation game Saturaday at 1 PM
