Baseball Returns Home, Splits With Central Penn

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Baseball hosted Central Penn in their first matchup following their Myrtle Beach trip.

Game One: Central Penn 5, Penn State Schuylkill 0

Following four scoreless innings, Central Penn earned their first run of the contest at the top of the fifth as they grounded out with third base occupied. A single, a double, and a few stolen bases put Central Penn in position to secure an additional three runs at the top of the sixth. A single to left center at the top of the seventh gave Central Penn their fifth run of the contest.

RayJay Marmolejos (Wyomissing, PA / Wilson High School) finished with a double for Schuylkill. Kyle Kaminski (Lodi, NJ / Saint Mary High School) and Owen Zimmerman (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School) added singles for Schuylkill in the loss.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 6, Central Penn 3

Schuylkill began the second contest strong as Ethan Naftzinger (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) and Conner Licklider (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) hit consecutive singles during the first plays of the opening drive. A sac fly by Zimmerman plays later gave Schuylkill an early 1-0 lead. Schuylkill would add on an additional point by the end of the next inning as Ryan Jarboe (Pottsville, PA / Blue Mountain High School) drove in a run for Jared Sterner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School).

A double to left field at the top of the third drove in Central Penn's first run of the contest. A fielders choice put Schuylkill in position to score at the bottom of the third. With Schuylkill looking to add on to their lead, a double by Nate Gilbert (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School) gave Schuylkill a 3-1 advantage. Brenan Adams (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) would single to left field plays later, increasing Schuylkill's lead to 4-1 by the end of the inning.

Central Penn would not go away as two singles during the top of the fourth drove in two runs, narrowing their deficit to 4-3. Another sac fly for Schuylkill, this time from Jarboe gave Schuylkill an additional run heading into the fifth inning.

Following two scoreless innings by Central Penn, a sac by Marmolejos advanced Sterner to third base, who would score Schuylkill's final points of the day on a passed ball.

Licklider finished 2-3 at bat for Schuylkill. Jarboe finished 1-2 with 2 RBIs. Adams pitched 4.0 innings, winning his matchup.

Schuylkill (7-5 overall, 0-0 PSUAC) will return to action on Thursday as they host Southern Maine CC in a doubleheader matchup (11 a.m. & 1 p.m.)
