Baseball Sweeps Camden County in Regular Season Finale

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Baseball swept Camden County Community College in their final home matchup of the 2024 season.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 11, Camden County Community College 1

Consecutive singles by Conner Licklider (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) and Owen Zimmerman (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School) were followed by a double from Nate Gilbert (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School), earning Schuylkill their first run of the contest. Zimmerman crossed home plate on the next play as Brenan Adams (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) grounded out. With Ryan Jarboe (Pottsville, PA / Blue Mountain High School) pinch running for Gilbert, Ethan Naftzinger (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) singled him in to give Schuylkill their third run of the inning.

Schuylkill swiftly loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning following walks by Owen Shoop (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley High School), RayJay Marmolejos (Wyomissing, PA / Wilson High School), and a single by Licklider. A walk by Zimmerman brought Shoop home. Schuylkill concluded the inning with two runs as Gilbert reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Marmolejos.

A triple in the top of the third set up Camden County's only run of the contest following a groundout on the next play. Schuylkill responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth as Licklider stole home.

Schuylkill accumulated six walks in the fifth inning, with three leading to runs. A single by Licklider and a sacrifice fly by Naftzinger contributed to Schuylkill's run total for the inning, concluding the frame with five runs in total.

Licklider went a perfect 3-3 at bat with an RBI. Gilbert finished with a double and two RBIs. Also tallying two RBIs were Zimmerman, Adams, and Naftzinger. Jared Sterner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) secured the win on the mound, pitching 5.0 innings and striking out seven.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 5, Camden County Community College 2

A single to centerfield by Camden County in the top of the first gave them the game's first run. Schuylkill responded in the bottom of the inning as singles by Licklider and Adams led to Schuylkill's first run. With Licklider on second base after reaching on an error and stealing, Adams drove him in with a double, giving Schuylkill a 2-1 advantage heading into the fourth inning.

Camden County leveled the score at 2-2 after scoring on a passed ball in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the inning, Marmolejos doubled to left field to kick things off for Schuylkill. Licklider walked, and both players proceeded to steal second and third bases. Up next was Zimmerman, who singled in a run for Marmolejos. Zimmerman and Licklider would cross the plate as Adams earned two RBIs.

Adams went 2-3 at bat with a double and a team-high four RBIs. Marmolejos also hit a double. Zimmerman pitched the entire game, securing the win while striking out nine batters.

Schuylkill will resume action on Sunday, May 5th, as they face Penn State Dubois on day two of the PSUAC Tournament at University Park.
