Penn State Schuylkill baseball earned a big nonconference victory Tuesday afternoon, taking down NCAA Division III King's College, 8-6, in Wilkes-Barre. With the win, Schuylkill improves to 23-15 overall heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
Schuylkill struck first in the opening frame as Dan Zimmerman delivered a two-run double to plate RayJay Marmolejos and Conner Licklider. After King's responded in the second to tie it, Schuylkill broke things open in the fifth—highlighted by a two-RBI single from Brandon Pupek and a sac fly from Roman Cieless—to take a 5-2 lead.
Marmolejos added to the momentum in the sixth with a solo homer, and Pupek sealed the win with a clutch two-run double in the ninth. King's rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the Schuylkill bullpen held firm to secure the win.
On the mound, Owen Shoop earned his sixth win of the season, tossing four solid innings, while Michael Kohler and Tristan Baer combined for four scoreless before King's made a late push.
