The local Lions took the field for the first time
and walked away with a 3-1 victory
over the Falcons of Davis College. PSU Schuylkill struggled to keep possession
early in the game however against the run
of play in the 10th minute a long throw in by
Jarritt Geiger (Pine Grove)
found the head of
Cole Schwalm (Pine Grove) that
squeaked past the Davis' goalie for the first goal
of the game. The local Lions added a second goal
later in the first half when Jarred Matter (Williams Valley)struck
a well placed free-kick from 18 yards out to up the lead to 2-0.
PSU Schuylkill opened the second half flat giving up a goal just
10 minutes in to close the gap to 2-1.
However, the Schuylkill defense of Luke Schwalm, Jarritt Geiger (Pine Grove) and
Julian Evans (Interboro) held strong blocking multiple shots and goalkeeper
Brad Fryer (Schuylkill Haven) made 8 saves to preserve the lead.
Tyler Christensen (Pine Grove) received a pass from
Kasey Krammes (Blue Mountain)
and beat multiple defenders and calmly finished in the side netting to finalize the scoring at 3-1.
PSU Schuylkill returns to action on Thursday, September 3 on the road against Lehigh Carbon Community College.
