Men's Volleyball Falls Short at Elizabethtown Tri-Match

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Men's Volleyball lost both of their matchups during their tri-match at Elizabethtown College on Saturday.

Game One: Rutgers-Newark 3, Penn State Schuylkill 0

Schuylkill took an early 2-1 lead in the first set following a kill by Lane Opolsky (St. Clair, PA / Nativity BVM High School). As both teams traded points on the next two possessions, Rutgers-Newark would go on a 9-2 run to take an 11-4 lead. Schuylkill narrowed their deficit to five following a service error and an attack error by Rutgers-Newark. A late run by Rutgers-Newark ultimately gave them the first set victory.

Both teams traded points to begin the second set before a 10-0 run by Rutgers-Newark extended their lead to 16-6. Rutgers-Newark was able to hold on to their margin for the rest of the set.

Trailing 8-3 during the third set, Schuylkill went on a 7-4 stretch to narrow their deficit to two points. Rutgers-Newark then extended their lead to ten points following a 10-2 run.

Bryce Hensley (Lake Wynonah, PA / Blue Mountain High School) finished with a kill and an ace. Opolsky recorded a kill and a dig. Aramis Rosario-Gonzalez (Columbia, MD / Glenelg High School) added two digs.

Game Two: Elizabethtown College 3, Penn State Schuylkill 0

Holding an early 3-2 lead, Elizabethtown went on a 6-0 stretch to gain separation in the first set, ultimately extending their lead to double digits following another six-point swing. Schuylkill battled with Elizabethtown to begin the second set, only trailing 7-5 after a few plays. Elizabethtown then took control of the set following a late 5-0 run.

Schuylkill quickly matched Elizabethtown's early score during the third set after a kill by Bryce Hensley. Schuylkill finished with four kills during the third set.

Hensley finished with four kills, four digs, an ace, an assist, and a block. Ryan Leibson (Orwigsburg, PA / Blue Mountain High School) tallied two kills, three assists, and two digs. Ashton Owens (Pine Grove, PA / Pine Grove Area High School) added a kill and a dig.

Schuylkill (0-6 overall) will travel to Bryn Athyn for their next matchup on Thursday, March 28th.
