Softball Continues to Roll, Extends Win Streak to Three

MYRTLE BEACH, Sc. – Penn State Schuylkill Softball completed their trip at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on a high note as they defeated Rochester University, completing the final day sweep.

Schuylkill wasted no time scoring as a double by Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain High School) in the bottom of the first inning drove in their first run of the contest. Schuylkill had a dominant second inning as five hits ultimately led to five runs.

Rochester scored their first run of the contest at the top of the fifth inning following a single. Schuylkill immediately responded as a single by Morgan Kleckner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) and a double by Tayla Jones (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) to begin the bottom of the fifth extended Schuylkill's lead to 7-1. Schuylkill managed to score once more before the end of the inning.

Jade Weiss (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) finished 3-4 at bat with an RBI. Youst, Kleckner, Jones, and Cealinn McGroarty (New Boston, PA / Mahanoy Area High School) all added 2 hits while Youst led the team with 2 RBIs. Emma Crisswell (Williamstown, PA / Williams Valley High School) went the distance on the mound, winning her matchup while striking out 11 opponents.

Schuylkill (3-2 overall, 0-0 overall) will return to action on Wednesday, March 13 as they host Bucks County Community College in a doubleheader.
