DUBOIS, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Softball defeated Lyon College on the opening day of the USCAA World Series.
The defense for both teams was sturdy as there was only one hit between the two teams for the first four innings. Schuylkill would slowly pick up momentum as Megan Marks (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township High School) hit a triple in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the next frame, Jade Weiss (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) singled and stole second base, setting herself up for a run as single by Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain High School) brought her home to secure the game clinching run.
Emma Crisswell (Williamstown, PA / Williams Valley High School) battled on the mound with Lyon, winning her matchup while allowing only two hits while striking out six. Lyon allowed three hits and a run in the matchup while striking out nine Schuylkill batters.
Schuylkill will take on PSUAC opponent Penn State Mont Alto in the next round on Tuesday, May 14th at 4:00 p.m.
