Penn State Schuylkill Closes Successful Cross Country Season at USCAA National Championships

The Penn State Schuylkill men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up a remarkable season at the 2024 USCAA National Championships, held at Penn State Fayette. Competing against top teams in challenging rainy conditions, the Lions demonstrated resilience and teamwork.

Women's 6K Recap:
The women's team, led by senior Malak Mowafi, finished 7th overall with a total time of 2:51:13. Mowafi paced the team, completing the course in 28:32.9, finishing 31st overall. Freshman Farangiz Kholmatova and Abby Purcell followed closely, crossing the line in 29:28.2 and 34:39.8, respectively. The team continued to show strong efforts throughout the season improving every meet.

Men's 8K Recap:
The men's team also put forth a solid performance, finishing 7th overall with a total time of 2:52:32. Sophomore Ashton Owens clocked in at 30:41.1 to lead the lions. Senior Matthew O, competing in his final cross country meet, crossed the line with a time of 31:16.8, earning him 25th place. Sophomore Aramis Rosario Gonzalez and freshman Tyrone Chambers showcased their growth, finishing at 35:36.6 and 36:40.7, respectively.

Honoring Our Seniors:
As the season closes, we extend our heartfelt thanks to seniors Matthew O, Nadia King, and Malak Mowafi for their dedication and leadership. Matthew will transition to the track team in the spring, while Nadia and Malak will continue to represent Schuylkill on the basketball court this winter. Their contributions to Schuylkill athletics have set a high standard for future teams.
