Baseball Sweeps Penn State Hazleton in Home Opener

HAMBURG, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Baseball swept PSUAC opponent Penn State Hazleton in their home opener on Sunday, defeating Hazleton 9-7 in the first matchup and shutting them out 10-0 in the second matchup.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 9, Penn State Hazleton 7 (7 innings)

Owen Kosar (Shenandoah, PA / Shenandoah Valley) went 2-4 at bat and finished with 2 RBIs for Schuylkill. Jake Leininger (Pine Grove, PA / Pine Grove), Chase Herb (Hegins, PA / Tri-Valley), Patrick Ryan (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville), and Ethan Naftzinger (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) all tallied doubles for Schuylkill. Six of Schuylkill's nine total runs came during the 6th inning. Ryan Culbert (Pine Grove, PA / Pine Grove) pitched a total of 6 innings on the mound, winning his matchup.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 5, Penn State Hazleton 1 (5 innings)

Owen Zimmerman (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) went 2-3 at bat and finished with a triple in the second matchup. Zimmerman also went the distance on the mound and won his matchup, allowing only 1 hit. Herb went 2-4 and finished with a double. Naftzinger also finished with a double for Schuylkill. Schuylkill shut out Hazleton in five innings.

The rematch between Schuylkill (7-3, 2-0 PSUAC) and Hazleton will take place on Tuesday, April 28th at Babe Ruth Field – Hazle Township, PA. The first pitch will be thrown at 2:30 followed by a 4:30 contest.
