Baseball Drops Two to Penn State Brandywine

ASHTON, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Baseball dropped both games to Penn State Brandywine in Monday's doubleheader matchup.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 10, Penn State Schuylkill 4

Four hits and an error by Schuylkill at the bottom of the 3rd inning ultimately led to four Brandywine runs. A single up the middle at the bottom of the 4th inning extended Brandywine's lead to 5-0.

A ground ball at the top of the 5th inning gave Schuylkill their first score of the game. A throwing error by Brandywine plays later gave Schuylkill two additional runs during the frame, closing the gap to 5-3.

Brandywine dominated during the 6th inning as 5 hits ultimately led to 5 runs. Brandywine went on to close Schuylkill out in 7 innings.

Ethan Naftzinger (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) tallied 2 hits and an RBI in the loss. Owen Kosar (Shenandoah, PA / Shenandoah Valley) also tallied an RBI for Schuylkill.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 4, Penn State Schuylkill 3

Schuylkill was the first team to score in the second contest as a Sac Fly by Evan Kosar (Shenandoah / Shenandoah Valley) lead to an Owen Zimmerman (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) run at the top of the 1st inning.

Schuylkill continued to attack as a double and triple by Chase Herb (Hegins, PA / Tri-Valley) and Jake Leininger (Pine Grove, PA / Pine Grove), respectively, led to a Herb run at the top of the third. Naftzinger went on to single up the middle plays later, giving Schuylkill their final run of the contest.

Brandywine tied the game at 3-3 during the 6th inning as a single lead to two runs. Another single at the bottom of the 7th inning claimed the victory for Brandywine.

Herb finished with a double for Schuylkill. Naftzinger and Kosar tallied an RBI each in the loss.

Schuylkill (12-8 overall, 7-5 PSUAC) will remain on the road as take on Penn State Scranton this Friday in a doubleheader matchup. The first pitch is at 2:00 p.m.
