Men's Basketball Drops First of Two Against University of Michigan-Dearborn

DETROIT, Mi – Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball team traveled to Detroit, Michigan to take on University of Michigan-Dearborn in what would be the first of two consecutive matchups between the two teams. Schuylkill would come up short, falling 93-78.

Dearborn would waste no time entering the scoring column, converting on a layup five seconds into the contest. After another Dearborn layup, Pau Pumarola (Barcelona, Spain / IMG Academy) would convert on two consecutive attempts to even the score 4-4. Dearborn would then go on a 21-10 spurt highlighted by a series of made jump shots.

Ryan Worrell (Leesport, PA / Schuylkill Valley High School) would find Dashawn Dixon (Baltimore, MD / Cantonsville High School) on a no look pass to bring the deficit to 16-25 with 8:59 remaining in the half. Dixon would remain active, finding Derrick McCummings (Baumholder, Germany / Baumholder High School) on a 3-point make with 7:36 to go in the first.

After a series of made layups by Schuylkill, Dearborn would convert on a 3-point make to push the lead to 36-23. A 5-0 stretch by Dearborn following a Schuylkill layup would give Dearborn a 16-point advantage with 4:00 left in the half.

Schuylkill would go on a 10-0 run highlighted by a two-handed slam dunk by Dixon. Dearborn would then finish the half off on a 9-2 run to push the lead to 50-37.

Schuylkill would be the first to convert from the field in the second half, with Dixon finding Bryce Hensley (Auburn, PA / Blue Mountain High School) on a made layup. Andrew Sepp (Bogota, NJ / Saint Mary High School) converted on a 3-point make to bring the deficit to 54-42 with 18:00 remaining in regulation. After a 10-0 Dearborn run, Sepp would convert yet another 3-point attempt to halt the run.

Both teams would trade baskets for the next five possessions leading to a Dearborn timeout with 14:09 left in regulation. Sepp would continue his hot shooting, finding the mark from distance once again to bring the deficit to 56-70.

A pair of made Dixon free throws would bring the deficit to 61-73. Dearborn then went on a 6-0 run which was halted by a Devin Adams (Middle River, MD / Kenwood High School) jump shot. Dearborn would then go on a 5-0 stretch to push the lead to 20, putting the game out of reach.

Sepp led Schuylkill in scoring with 14 points, 4-6 from 3-pt. Pumarola finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Dixon notched 11 points and 9 rebounds. Byrd contributed with 7 points and 5 assists.

Men's Basketball will compete against University of Michigan-Dearborn once again tomorrow afternoon at the University of Michigan's Crisler Center. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
