Men's Basketball Continues to Roll with Win Over Penn State Brandywine

Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball moved up to second place in the PSUAC East rankings following their 71-65 win against Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday night.

The first few minutes of the contest were heavily contested as Brandywine scored the first points of the contest with 16:18 to go in the half. Six consecutive points by Wilvens Fleurizard (Tamarac, FL / Coral Springs High School) gave Schuylkill a 6-2 advantage with 14:31 remaining in the half. Dashawn Dixon (Baltimore, MD / Cantonsville High School) followed suit, scoring six consecutive points as well to give Schuylkill a 12-4 lead.

An 11-0 run by Brandywine gave them a 20-15 lead with 7:51 to go in the half. Back-to-back 3-point makes by Devin Adams (Middle River, MD / Kenwood High School) and Ryan Worrell (Leesport, PA / Schuylkill Valley High School), respectively, put Schuylkill back in the driver's seat with 7:04 remaining. With the score tied at 27 with 7 seconds left in the half, Adams would knock down a deep 3-pointer to give Schuylkill a 3-point lead heading into the final half.

An 8-2 stretch by Schuylkill to begin the half was capped off by a made basket by Dixon, forcing a Brandywine timeout with 15:57 to go in regulation. A made layup by Fleurizard out of the timeout extended Schuylkill's lead to 40-31. Dixon and Fleurizard accounted for 33 of Schuylkill's 41 second half points.

Brandywine brought their deficit to 50-48 with 9:31 remaining in regulation. A 12-2 run by Schuylkill extended their lead past 10 and gave them a 62-50 advantage with 6:09 to play. Brandywine battled back once again to bring their deficit to 69-65 with 45 seconds remaining, however Schuylkill executed late and went on to defeat Brandywine.

Fleurizard led Schuylkill with 25 points. Dixon finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Adams added 8 points off the bench. Antwuan Byrd (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt High School) notched 9 assists in the victory.

Schuylkill (14-4. 13-4 PSUAC) will compete in their final two games of the regular season at home beginning with Penn State Hazleton on Saturday and Penn State York on Tuesday.
