Softball Drops First Two At Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic

Penn State Schuylkill dropped their first two games of the season at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Sunday.

Game One: Goldey-Beacom 9, Penn State Schuylkill 1 (6 innings)

With bases loaded for Schuylkill's at the top of the first inning, Meagan Stokes (Winchester, VA / John Hadley) ran in for a score to give Schuylkill a 1-0 advantage. A total of six hits from Goldey-Beacom at the bottom of the first inning ultimately resulted in six runs to give Goldey-Beacom a 6-1 advantage heading into the second inning.

Two back-to-back to back doubles by Goldey-Beacom at the bottom of the second inning led to two runs, giving them an 8-1 advantage heading into the third inning. A run during the sixth inning ultimately sealed the deal for Goldey-Beacom.

Mackenzie Carl (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley) and Isabela Caruso (Gilbertsville, PA / Pope John Paul II) tallied a hit each for Schuylkill. Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain) tallied an RBI in the loss.

Game Two: Kings College 8, Penn State Schuylkill 0 (6 innings)

A leadoff triple by Kings in the first inning led to a run following a left center single. With bases loaded after a double to right field, King's went on to hit back to back singles to take a 3-0 lead at the top of the first inning.

Schuylkill was able to stop King's during the second inning, forcing three outs. Kaely Walshaw (Dornsife, PA / Line Mountain) struck out two of the three outs during the second inning.

A double and two singles by King's at the top of the third led to three runs, giving King's a 6-0 advantage. Kings extended their lead to 8-0 at the top of the fifth inning.

A double by Kristina McConnell (Port Jefferson Station, NY / Comsewogue) at the bottom of the fifth inning gave Schuyllkill some momentum, however Kings defense was able to prevent Schuylkill from scoring and closed out the game. McConnell and Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain) finished with a hit each.

Penn State Schuylkill Softball returns to action at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Tuesday as they take on Trinity University at 9:00 am and Centenary University at 11:00 am.
