Softball Splits With Washington Adventist

TAKOMA PARK, MD - Penn State Schuylkill Softball split their double header matchup with NAIA opponent Washington Adventist on Sunday, winning 13-1 in the first matchup and falling 13-3 in the second matchup.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 13, Washington Adventist 3 (5 innings)

With Cealinn McGroarty (New Boston, PA / Mahanoy) and Meghan Stokes (Winchester, VA / John Hadley) at first and second bases respectfully, Mackenzie Carl (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley) would single, leading to a Stokes run a few plays into the contest. Kaely Walshaw (Dornsife, PA / Line Mountain) connected on a home run on the very next play, giving Schuylkill three more runs to take a 4-0 lead.

Following two consecutive singles by Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain) and Kristina McConnell (Port Jefferson Station, NY / Comsewogue), Morgan Kleckner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) doubled, leading to a Youst run. McConnell and Kleckner scored on wild pitches later in the 1st inning to extend Schuylkill's lead to 7-0.  

Washington Adventist scored at the bottom of the 1st inning on an error, their only run of the contest.

Schuylkill continued to run up the score, gaining two more runs at top of the 2nd innings to extend their lead to 9-1. Schuylkill totaled 3 hits during the 3rd inning which ultimately led to 4 runs. Schuylkill closed out Washington Adventist in 5 innings.

Walshaw's home run during the 1st inning led to 3 RBIs. Kleckner tallied two hits including a double. Carl and Youst finished with 3 hits and 2 RBIs each. Walshaw went the distance on the mound, winning her matchup and allowing only one run.

Game Two: Washington Adventist 13, Penn State Schuylkill 3

Following two Schuylkill scores at the top of the 1st inning, 2 home runs and a double by Washington Adventist led to a total of 8 runs at the bottom of the 3rd inning. Washington Adventist continued to attack during the next two innings, scoring a total of 5 times while allowing only one Schuylkill run. Washington Adventist went on to close Schuylkill out in 6 innings. Stokes finished with two hits for Schuylkill.

Schuylkill (6-4 overall, 2-0 PSUAC) will continue their road stretch against NCAA Division III opponent Albright College on Tuesday, March 28th.
