Softball Falls to Penn State Brandywine

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Softball fell in both matchups to Penn State Brandywine on Saturday, falling 10-2 in the first matchup and 4-0 in the second contest.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 10, Penn State Schuylkill 2

Brandywine got out to a hot start in the first matchup, hitting two doubles and three singles at the top of the first which ultimately led to four runs. Two singles by Meghan Stokes (Winchester, VA / John Hadley) and Cealinn McGroarty (New Boston, PA / Mahanoy) at the bottom of the first set up a run for Stokes as Mackenzie Carl (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley) flied out to centerfield.

Brandywine continued to roll as two consecutive doubles at the top of the second gave them their fifth run of the contest. Two additional hits during the frame led to two more runs for Brandywine.

Singles by Morgan Kleckner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) and Melanie Torrales (Allentown, PA / William Allen) got things started for Schuylkill at the bottom of the 2nd inning. A single by Stokes plays later gave Schuylkill their second run of the contest.

Two sac fly's by Brandywine at the top of the fourth extended their lead to 9-2. Brandywine would score once again during the 6th inning as they closed Schuylkill out in six.

Stokes went 2 for 3 at bat and tallied an RBI for Schuylkill. Carl tallied an RBI as well in the loss.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 4. Penn State Schuylkill 0

A wild pitch got things started for Brandywine at the top of the first. Brandywine scored a run each during the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Stokes, Carl, Kleckner, and Caitlyn Goggin (Alexandria, VA / Hayfield Secondary School) all tallied singles for Schuylkill in the second contest.
