Softball Rallies Late to Defeat Penn State DuBois

ASTON, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Softball rallied from behind to defeat Penn State DuBois in the opening round of the PSUAC Tournament, defeating DuBois 7-6.

A sac fly by Kristina McConnell (Port Jefferson Station, NY / Comsewogue) at the top of the 2nd inning gave Schuylkill their first run of the contest. A single to right center at the bottom of the 3rd inning drove in DuBois' first run of the contest. A triple to right field on the very next play led to another DuBois run, giving them a 2-1 advantage going into the fourth.

With the bases loaded for DuBois at the bottom of the 4th inning, a single to right center cleared the bases and extended the DuBois lead to 5-1. A single to right field at the plays later gave DuBois their sixth run of the contest.

With Mackenzie Carl (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley) occupying third base at the top of the 6th inning, Morgan Kleckner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) grounded out, driving in Schuylkill's second run of the contest.

With Schuylkill trailing 5-2 at the top of the 7th inning, McConnell singled to the right side to get things started for Schuylkill. A single to right center plays later by Cealinn McGroarty (New Boston, PA / Mahanoy) lead to a run by Caitlyn Goggin (Alexandria, VA / Hayfield Secondary School), bringing Schuylkill within two.

With Schuylkill looking to complete their comeback, Kaely Walshaw (Dornsife, PA / Line Mountain) stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and hit her 8th home run of the season. Walshaw's home run total is good for first in the PSUAC and second nationally. Schuylkill's defense was able to close out DuBois at the bottom of the seventh.

Walshaw's home run gave her 4 RBIs on the day. Also tallying RBIs were McConnell, Kleckner, and McGroarty.
