Softball Downs Penn State Dubois, Advances to PSUAC Semifinals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Softball rallied from behind in the 7th inning to defeat Penn State Dubois and advance to the semifinal round of the PSUAC Softball Tournament.

With bases loaded for Dubois at the bottom of the first, a Schuylkill error gave them their first run of the contest. Schuylkill went on to score in similar fashion at the top of the first as a Fayette error ultimately evened the score at 1-1.  

A wild pitch plays later gave Schuylkill their second run of the inning. A double by Meghan Stokes (Winchester, VA / John Hadley) drove in a Caitlyn Goggin (Alexandria, VA / Hayfield Secondary School) run and extended their lead to 3-1.

A Schuylkill error at the bottom of the fourth gave DuBois their second run of the contest. DuBois took a 5-3 lead going into the 6th inning as 3 hits ultimately lead to 3 runs.

With Cealinn McGroarty (New Boston, PA / Mahanoy) and Stokes stealing second and third bases, Mackenzie Carl (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley) went on to walk on the next play. With bases loaded for Schuylkill, Kaely Walshaw (Dornsife, PA / Line Mountain) doubled, driving in two runs for Schuylkill and evening the score at 5-5. Schuylkill went on to take the lead plays later, scoring on a passed ball. A walk by Goggin plays later drove in a Walshaw run. Schuylkill went on to defeat Dubois 7-5.

Stokes, Walshaw, and Carl all connected on doubles in the victory. Walshaw led Schuylkill with 2 RBIs while winning her pitching matchup.
