Softball Falls in Opening Round of USCAA Tournament

DUBOIS, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Softball fell in the opening round of the USCAA National Tournament to Mississippi University for Women, 17-1.

A double to left field drove in Mississippi's first run of the contest at the top of the 1st inning. A single to left center followed by a home run gave Mississippi four additional runs, ending the top of the first with a 5-0 advantage.

Mississippi scored on back-to-back plays at the top of the second as they stole home base and was able to drive in a run following a sac fly. An error at the top of the fourth extended their lead to 8-0. Two sac fly's, a wild pitch, and a single contributed to four additional runs during the 4th inning.

Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain) doubled to left field at the bottom of the fourth and advanced to third base plays later. A single by Isabela Caruso (Gilbertsville, PA / Pope John Paul II) gave Schuylkill their first run of the contest.

Mississippi matched their run total of five during the 5th inning, highlighted by a home run which drove in three runs. Mississippi went on to close out Schuylkill in five innings.

Caruso tallied an RBI for Schuylkill while Youst finished with a double. Meghan Stokes (Winchester, VA / John Hadley) hit two singles in the loss.
