Softball Drops Two Against Penn State Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Softball lost both of their matchups against Penn State Mont Alto on Friday.

Game One: Penn State Mont Alto 10, Penn State Schuylkill 2

After Jade Weiss (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) singled to shortstop on the first play of the game, she scored Schuylkill's first run of the contest following an error. Mont Alto scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning with two doubles and a single, totaling six runs in the opening inning.

Weiss advanced to second base in the top of the third following a single by Mackenzie Carl (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley High School) and then scored as Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain High School) singled through the left side. Mont Alto responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. They scored two additional runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with two singles.

Youst went a perfect 3-3 with an RBI. Carl finished 2-3 at bat.

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 4, Penn State Schuylkill 3

Schuylkill had a strong start to the second contest beginning with a double by Weiss. Morgan Kleckner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) then singled through the right side to give Schuylkill their first run of the contest. A single by Youst on the next play was followed by a double to left center by Kaely Walshaw (Dornsife, PA / Line Mountain High School), giving Schuylkill another run. Tayla Jones (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) then drove in a run for Youst, granting Schuylkill a 3-0 lead after the inning. Mont Alto grounded out in the bottom of the second, giving them their first run of the contest.

Following three scoreless innings, Mont Alto evened the score in the bottom of the sixth following a sac and a triple. A single to second base in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded clinched the win for Mont Alto.

Walshaw finished two for three with a double and an RBI. Also going two for three was Emily Brent (Elysburg, PA / Southern Columbia Area High School). Weiss tallied a double in the loss.

Schuylkill (11-7 overall, 3-3 PSUAC) will return to action on Saturday as they host Penn State Dubois.
