Softball Back in Win Column Following Dubois Sweep

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Softball swept PSUAC pponent Penn State Dubois on Saturday.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 4, Penn State Dubois 2

DuBois got off to a fast start, tripling on the first play of the game and scoring their first run on the next play. DuBois scored their second run of the contest in the top of the third inning on a wild pitch.

Tayla Jones (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) doubled in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored Schuylkill's first run of the game as Megan Marks (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township High School) drove her in. Later in the inning, a double by Jade Weiss (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) tied the score at 2-2 heading into the top of the fifth inning.

With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning and the score tied, Emma Crisswell (Williamstown, PA / Williams Valley High School) earned her eleventh strikeout of the game, handing DuBois their third out of the inning.

Schuylkill started off strong in the bottom of the seventh as Cealinn McGroarty (New Boston, PA / Mahanoy Area High School) singled on the first play. Stepping up next to bat was Weiss, who hit her third home run of the season, clinching the win for Schuylkill.

Weiss's double and home run gave her three RBIs for Schuylkill. McGroarty, Marks, and Kaely Walshaw (Dornsife, PA / Line Mountain High School) all finished 2-3 at bat, while Morgan Kleckner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) and Jones both hit doubles in the win.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 5, Penn State Dubois 4

A single and a double in the top of the first inning gave DuBois two early runs. Schuylkill responded in the bottom of the frame with singles by Weiss and Kleckner, putting Schuylkill on the board.

Jones singled to begin the bottom of the second for Schuylkill. Another single by Marks later in the inning tied the score at two. Schuylkill's third single of the inning, this time by Weiss, gave Schuylkill a 3-2 lead after two innings.

A double and a single in the bottom of the third by Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain High School) and Walshaw, respectively, gave Schuylkill solid field position. A sacrifice by Jones on the following play brought in Youst and extended Schuylkill's lead to 4-2.

Three singles in the top of the fourth brought DuBois within one. Schuylkill continued to respond to DuBois' efforts as a double by Youst in the bottom of the fifth inning extended Schuylkill's lead to 5-3.

With first base occupied for DuBois in the bottom of the seventh inning, Mackenzie Carl (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley High School) caught a hit ball and threw it to McGroarty at second base to force an out. McGroarty then threw it over to Walshaw at first base to complete the double play. This play served critical as DuBois hit a home run on the next play to bring their deficit to 5-4 before receiving their third out of the inning, clinching the win for Schuylkill.

Youst finished 2-3 at bat while hitting two doubles. Also finishing 2-3 at bat were Weiss and Walshaw. Marks went a perfect 2-2 at the plate.

Schuylkill (13-7 overall, 5-3 PSUAC) will return to action on Friday as they host PSUAC opponent Penn State Beaver.
