Stevenson and Ingram Too Much as Women's Basketball Holds Off Penn State Altoona

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa – Tajae Stevenson (Patterson, NJ / International High School) and Kassidy Ingram (Abington, PA / Trinity High School) combined for 39 points and 27 rebounds in Wednesday night's 69-59 victory against Penn State Altoona.

Ingram hit the ground running to begin the contest, scoring the first six points for Schuylkill. Altoona would convert on a three-point attempt with 6:20 remaining in the quarter, taking a 7-6 advantage over Schuylkill. Schuylkill then would go on a 10-1 run to end the quarter.

Altoona would go on a run of their own to begin the second quarter, outscoring Schuylkill 13-6 and regaining the lead. Ingram and Stevenson would connect on back-to-back jumpers to give Schuylkill a 26-21 lead late in the quarter. Altoona would capitalize on two 3-point field goal attempts, closing the gap to one with 30 seconds remaining. Alahna Balbach (Gouldsboro, PA / North Pocono High School) converted on a buzzer beater to end the half, giving Schuylkill the momentum going into the second half.  

Schuylkill entered the third period on fire, going on a 16-3 run. Schuylkill would continue to dictate the pace as the quarter progressed.

The fourth quarter was pretty much the same as both teams continued to trade baskets. Schuylkill would outscore Altoona 19 to 18 in the final period.

Stevenson led Schuylkill with 23 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists. Ingram finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Serena Jones (New Ringgold, PA / Tamaqua High School) was a valuable spark off the bench for Schuylkill finishing with 12 points on the night, 6 of those points coming during Schuylkill's first quarter run. With the victory, Schuylkill improves to 7-4 overall, 4-1 in PSUAC conference play.

Women's Basketball will return to action this Saturday, as they travel to Hazleton, PA to take on conference opponent Penn State Hazleton. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
