Women's Basketball tops Penn State Lehigh Valley in Overtime

Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball forced overtime and went on to defeat Penn State Lehigh Valley in Wednesday night's PSUAC matchup, 69-64.

With Penn State Lehigh Valley scoring in the first possession of the contest, Schuylkill would not allow another field goal for the remainder of the period. A Nadia King (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) steal and score was the beginning of a 10-0 run by Schuylkill.

With Lehigh Valley converting four free throws to bring their deficit to three, Schuylkill went on a 10-2 run to take a 20-9 lead going into the second quarter.

A deep two-point field goal by Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School) got things started for Schuylkill in the second quarter. A 14-2 stretch by Lehigh Valley brought their deficit to 24-23 with 4:30 remaining.

Kassidy Ingram (Abington, PA / Trinity High School) scored on two straight possessions to stretch the Schuylkill lead to 28-23. A 7-4 stretch by Lehigh Valley brought the score to 32-30. Lehigh Valley outscored Schuylkill 20-10 in the third period. A 11-5 run late in the quarter gave them a 50-42 advantage going into the final period.

Sherly Valentin (Bronx, NY / Renaissance High School) would follow up her own miss to bring the Schuylkill deficit to 60-59 with 1:41 remaining. Tajae Stevenson (Patterson, NJ / International High School) went 1-2 from the line in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime.

Schuylkill was the first to find the goal in the extra period, off a mid-range make by Ingram. After a Lehigh Valley made free throw, Ingram found the basket yet again to give Schuylkill a 64-61 lead with 2:40 remaining.

Lehigh Valley went 1-2 from the foul line and proceeded to score on their next possession to bring the score to 64-64. Schuylkill went on a 5-0 late to defeat Lehigh Valley 69-64 In overtime.

Ingram led Schuylkill with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Stevenson finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Crockett added 12 points. King contributed with 9 points and 4 rebounds.

Schuylkill (11-7. 8-2 PSUAC) will return home on Friday, January 20th as they take on PSUAC opponent Penn State Brandywine. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
