Womens Basketball Executes Late to Defeat Penn State Brandywine

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, PA - A 15-4 run by Schuylkill late in the first quarter gave them a 22-9 advantage going into the second period. Schuylkill dominated the rebounding matchup in the opening period, grabbing 16 compared to Brandywine's 6. Schuylkill also held Brandywine to 20 percent shooting from the field in the first.

A 13-6 stretch in the second period brought Brandywine back within striking distance, bringing their deficit to 34-29 heading into the second half.

Brandywine continued to battle, trimming the deficit to as much as two during the third quarter. Schuylkill had an answer for every Brandywine run and led 53-50 heading into the final period.

Brandywine took a 63-62 lead with 4:34 remaining to play in regulation. Schuylkill quickly recaptured the lead off two made free throws by Tajae Stevenson (Patterson, NJ / International High School).

A made jump shot by Stevenson gave Schuylkill a 71-68 advantage with 47 seconds remaining. With Brandywine in pursuit to even the score, Nadia King (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) came up with a huge steal with 17 seconds remaining and was sent to the foul line, where she went 2-2 giving Schuylkill a 73-68 lead and ultimately putting the game out of reach.

Stevenson led Schuylkill with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. King finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Kassidy Ingram (Abington, PA / Trinity High School) added 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists. Serena Jones contributed with 8 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

Schuylkill (12-7. 9-2 PSUAC) will head back on the road Tuesday, January 24th to take on PSUAC opponent Penn State Scranton. Tip off is set for 8 p.m.
