Women's Basketball Back in the Win Column with Victory Over Penn State York

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, PA - Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball held off PSUAC opponent Penn State York on Saturday, 65-51.

An 8-0 run by Schuylkill gave them a 14-4 advantage with 3:01 remaining in the opening quarter. A 5-0 stretch by York to end the period brought their deficit to 14-9 going into the second quarter.

York's momentum carried over from the previous period, as they scored on their first two possessions of the second quarter to bring their deficit to 14-13. A made jump shot by Nadia King (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) put an end to York's 9-0 run. A 10-5 stretch by Schuylkill late in the quarter gave Schuylkill a 29-22 lead going into the third period.

Back-to-back baskets by Kassidy Ingram (Abington, PA / Trinity High School) and Tajae Stevenson (Patterson, NJ / International High School) to open up the third gave Schuylkill their biggest lead of the contest up to that point at 33-22. York brought their deficit to 39-34 with 3:23 remaining off a made 3-point basket. Stevenson responded possessions later with a 3 point make of her own to push the Schuylkill lead to 8. Schuylkill extended their lead back to 10 on a made jump shot by Serena Jones (New Ringgold, PA / Tamaqua High School) with 1:31 to go in the third.

York brought their deficit to 54-49 with 2:46 remaining in regulation off a pair of made free throws. A 9-0 run by Schuylkill with less than 2 minutes remaining in the contest helped them gain separation as they went on to defeat York.

Stevenson led Schuylkill with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Ingram finished with a 14 point, 13 rebound double-double. King and Jones added 10 points each in the victory.

Schuylkill (17-8. 12-2 PSUAC) will play their next two contests at home, starting with PSUAC foe Penn State Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, February 7th. Tip off is set for 8:00 p.m.
