Women's Basketball Advances to PSUAC Semifinal Round

Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball defeated Penn State Brandywine in the quarterfinal round of the PSUAC tournament, 64-63.

A made jump shot by Nadia King (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) with 6:37 to go in the second quarter gave Schuylkill their biggest lead of the game up to that point at 22-15. Brandywine proceeded to score 9 consecutive points to take their first lead of the game with 5:13 left in the second quarter. Schuylkill quickly regained the lead following back to back baskets by King with 3:45 to go in the half. A 3-point make by Brandywine with 8 seconds remaining in the half brought their deficit to 30-29 heading into the third period.

Schuylkill extended their lead to 39-32 on a made jump shot by Kassidy Ingram (Abington, PA / Trinity High School) with 4:52 remaining in the third quarter. Brandywine closed the gap and took a 42-39 lead following a 10-0 run with 3:13 left in the period. Schuylkill outscored Brandywine 9-5 to close out the quarter and entered the fourth with a 48-47 lead.

A 7-0 Brandywine run gave them a 59-58 lead with 2:58 remaining in regulation. With Schuylkill trailing 61-60 with less than a minute to go, King found the net on a made jump shot to give Schuylkill a one-point lead. Brandywine quickly answered with a 2-point field goal of their own to regain the lead with 26 seconds remaining. Out of a Schuylkill timeout, Ingram knocked down a jump shot to take a 64-63 lead with 20 seconds remaining. Schuylkill held on to the lead as they went on to defeat Brandywine.

Ingram led Schuylkill with 22 points. King added 18 points and 9 rebounds. Tajae Stevenson (Patterson, NJ / International High School) led the team with 8 assists.

With the win, Schuylkill advances to the semifinal round of the PSUAC tournament. Schuylkill will host Penn State Greater Allegheny on Wednesday, March 1st. Tip off time is set for 6:00 p.m. The only matchup between the two teams took place back on November 18th where Schuylkill defeated Greater Allegheny at home, 65-58.
