Brittney Bartasavage Competes in Spain Soccer Tour

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - Women's Soccer player Brittney Bartasavage (Andreas, PA / Lehighton Area) traveled to Spain this summer to compete in a soccer tour hosted by Beyond Sports. During her trip, Bartasavage competed against local soccer teams from Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia.

What was the overall experience like in Spain?

The overall experience in Spain was unreal. The architecture was like nothing I have ever seen. Having the opportunity to play soccer in Spain against a different style of playing was a learning experience. Trying new foods was one of my favorite parts of the trip.

Was it your first time overseas?

This was my first time overseas. I enjoy seeing new places and trying new things so this was an asking opportunity.

Name and describe some of the places and landmarks that you visited while in Spain?

  • Plaza De Toros Madrid: Bullfighting arena that hosts bullfights everyday during the season
  • Oceanogràfic Aquarium Valencia: Largest aquarium in Europe
  • Catamaran ride Valencia: Explored the Mediterranean Sea
  • City of Arts and Sciences Valencia: Unique building that house different museums
  • Ciutadella Park Barcelona: Gorgeous park to walk through and see cool architecture
  • Park Güell Barcelona: Park with a mosaic bench and fountains designed by artist Gaudi
  • FC Barcelona: Toured the museum of the FC Barcelona team. The stadium was under construction unfortunately
  • La Sagrada Família Barcelona: A basílica with the most amazing architecture I have ever seen. This was my favorite place we visited

What was your favorite thing to eat in Spain?

My favorite thing I ate in Spain was Paella. Paella comes in different varieties. I enjoyed the chicken, rabbit, vegetables, and rice variety.

How was the competition in the games that you played in? How do you feel like you faired against the competition?

The competition was very good. We played against club teams in Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona. I believe the team I was on worked very well together. If we had played a season together, we would have outplayed the club teams that have been playing together for years.

Did you notice any differences in playing styles between America and Spain?

I believe the teams in Spain did a lot of passing and had great use of the whole field. I feel as though Americans play more physical and defensive rather than offensively.

Are you competing in any other events during the summer? If not, how are you preparing for the upcoming season?

I am not competing in any other events this summer. I am preparing for this upcoming season by going to the gym and passing around at my high school field with my high school teammate.

Bartasavage was named the PSUAC Player of the Year as well as the PSUAC Rookie of the Year for her play during the 2022 season. Bartasavage finished with 15 goals on the season, which lead the PSUAC and was good for fourth in the nation.
