Baseball Splits Final Day at Ripken Experience

MYRTLE BEACH, Sc. – Penn State Schuylkill Baseball split their doubleheader against The Apprentice School at the Ripken Experience.

Game One: Apprentice School 5, Penn State Schuylkill 2

Three hits for Apprentice ultimately led to two runs at the bottom of the first inning. A triple at the bottom of the fifth set up two additional runs for Apprentice, giving them a 4-0 lead heading into the sixth inning.

Patrick Duffy (Hilltown, PA / Lansdale Catholic High School) doubled to right field on the first play of the sixth inning. A wild pitch then advanced Duffy to third base. A single up the middle for Owen Zimmerman (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School) plays letter plated in Schuylkill's first run of the contest. Apprentice extended their lead to 5-1 at the bottom of the frame.

Duffy finished 1-3 at bath with a double. Zimmerman also went 1-3 and tallied an RBI.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 3, Apprentice School 2

Apprentice was the first team to score in the second matchup as an error at the top of the third inning gave them a 1-0 advantage. Apprentice would score once again during the next frame as a sac fly drove in their second run of the contest. Schuylkill hopped on the board after singles by Conner Licklider (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) and Zimmerman gave them their first run of the contest.

With Schuylkill down 2-1 at the bottom of the seventh and facing two outs, Kyle Kaminski (Lodi, NJ / Saint Mary High School) would single in runs for Jared Sterner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) and Chris Duffy (Perkasie, PA / Lansdale Catholic High School), clinching the victory in game two.

Kaminski's clutch hit gave him a single and two RBIs on the day. Zimmerman finished with an RBI and a single in the win.

Schuylkill (6-4 overall, 0-0 PSUAC) will return home for their next matchup as they host USCAA opponent Central Penn College.
