Baseball Splits with Penn State Scranton

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Baseball split their Friday doubleheader with Penn State Scranton.

Game One: Penn State Scranton 3, Penn State Schuylkill 2

Following three scoreless innings, Penn State Scranton earned their first run of the contest at the top of the fourth inning after an error. Scranton managed to earn two additional runs before receiving their third out.

In the bottom of the frame, Owen Zimmerman (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School) doubled and reached third base on a wild pitch. Zimmerman would make it to home base on an error by third base on the next play. Kyle Kaminski (Lodi, NJ / Saint Mary High School) singled in Schuylkill's second run of the contest later in the inning. The next three innings were scoreless as Penn State Scranton went on to win the first contest.

Zimmerman finished 2-3 with a double. Nate Gilbert (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School) and Kaminski tallied RBIs.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 4, Penn State Scranton 3

Schuylkill was the first team to score in the second contest following consecutive singles by Connor Licklider (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School), Zimmerman, and Gilbert. Schuylkill gained their second run of the contest in the bottom of the third after a fielder's choice. Scranton responded in the top of the fourth, earning their first run of the contest following a single to left field.  

Consecutive singles by Owen Shoop (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley High School), Ryan Jarboe (Pottsville, PA / Blue Mountain High School), and RayJay Marmolejos (Wyomissing, PA / Wilson High School) loaded the bases for Schuylkill in the bottom of the fourth inning, ultimately extending their lead to 4-1 as a fielder's choice gave them two runs. A double play by Shoop forced two early outs for Scranton in the top of the fifth inning, halting their momentum.

Following two outs, a single to centerfield drove in two runs for Scranton in the seventh inning, bringing them within one before receiving their final out on the next play.

Licklider finished 2-4 at bat with a double and two RBIs. Gilbert went 2-3 at plate with an RBI.

Schuylkill (14-9 overall, 5-3 PSUAC) will return to action on Tuesday, April 2nd as they travel to King's College.
