Baseball Wins Battle Against Central Penn

SUMMERDALE, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Baseball defeated USCAA opponent Central Penn College in a single nine inning contest on Thursday.

Central Penn was the first team to score in the contest following a Sac Fly in the bottom of the first inning. Schuylkill responded in the top of the second as a double by RayJay Marmolejos (Wyomissing, PA / Wilson High School) drove in a run for Jared Sterner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School). The score continued to change hands as a couple of stolen bases in the bottom of the second gave Central Penn an additional run, granting them a 2-1 advantage.

Connor Licklider (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) singled on the first play in the top of the third to get things started for Schuylkill in the inning. Licklider, along with Owen Zimmerman (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School), would advance to third and second bases respectively following an error. Kyle Kaminski (Lodi, NJ / Saint Mary High School) then singled in a run for Licklider on the next play to even the score at 2-2. Schuylkill continued to roll as Brenan Adams (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) singled on the subsequent play. Schuylkill took their first lead of the contest as a sac fly by Ethan Naftzinger (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) brought Zimmerman home.

Ryan Jarboe (Pottsville, PA / Blue Mountain High School) walked, stole second and later advanced to third base in the top of the fourth to give Schuylkill good field positioning. Jarboe would make it to home base following a single by Licklider, extending Schuylkill's lead to 4-2. Central Penn responded in the bottom of the fifth as a single narrowed their deficit to 4-3.

Both teams scored a point each in the sixth inning as a double by Zimmerman was matched in the bottom of the frame by a Central Penn home run.

Singles by Kaminski and Aidan Murhon (New Philadelphia, PA / Pottsville Area High School) got things going for Schuylkill in the final inning. With Chris Duffy (Perkasie, PA / Lansdale Catholic High School) pitch running for Kaminski, A single by Owen Shoop (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley High School) would drive in runs for the aforementioned. Central Penn managed to score once in the bottom of the frame before receiving their final out of the contest, clinching the win for Schuylkill.

Licklider finished 4-5 at bat with an RBI. Zimmerman went 3-5 with a double and an RBI. Also hitting doubles for Schuylkill were Marmolejos and Naftzinger. Shoop led the team with two RBIs.

Schuylkill (20-10 overall, 7-4 PSUAC) will return to action on Saturday, April 12th as they host PSUAC opponent Penn Sate Hazleton.
