Men's Volleyball Battles with Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Men's Volleyball fell to NCAA Division III opponent Bryn Athyn in three sets.

In the first set, an early kill by Ryan Leibson (Orwigsburg, PA / Blue Mountain High School) from Bryce Hensley (Lake Wynonah, PA / Blue Mountain High School) gave Schuylkill an initial 1-0 lead. However, Bryn Athyn then scored five consecutive points before Hensley delivered two back-to-back kills for Schuylkill, halting Bryn Athyn's momentum.

Schuylkill continued to battle, scoring on three consecutive possessions starting with a kill by Jayden Ferdinand (Frederiksted, St. Croix / St. Croix Educational Complex) and two consecutive aces by Malaki Nye (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain High School), narrowing their deficit to 9-7. Bryn Athyn then went on a run that saw their lead grow to double digits, ultimately securing them the first set win.

In the second set, both teams traded points early on with Schuylkill initially leading. Kills by Hensley and Ferdinand highlighted Schuylkill's early performance. However, Bryn Athyn took a 7-6 lead following an ace, marking their first lead of the set, and managed to maintain control throughout.

During the third set, trailing by double digits, Schuylkill went on an 8-1 run highlighted by kills from Ferdinand and Ashton Owens (Pine Grove, PA / Pine Grove Area High School), along with four consecutive points from Hensley (including a block and three kills), narrowing their deficit to 18-13. Despite Schuylkill's efforts, Bryn Athyn ultimately claimed victory in the third set.

Hensley finished with 10 kills, 8 digs, and 2 blocks. Ferdinand added 3 kills and a dig. Owens added 4 digs, a kill, and an assist while Leibson tallied 6 assist, 2 digs, and a kill.
