Women's Soccer Tops Clarks Summit University

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill defeated NCAA Division III opponent Clarks Summit University in a close matchup Wednesday afternoon.  

The excitement began just 1 minute and 33 seconds into the game when Nia Bronson (Pine Grove, PA / Pine Grove) found the back of the net, putting her team ahead early in the first period. After back and forth action between both teams, Clarks Summit leveled the score, with their first goal coming at the 20:26 mark.

Schuylkill quickly responded as Mackenzie Miller (Auburn, PA / Nativity BVM) scored moments later, giving Schuylkill a 2-1 advantage.

As the second period kicked off, Clarks Summit came out aggressively, firing off 7 shots within the first 10 minutes. However, Schuylkill refused to be overshadowed.

At the 55:36 mark, Schuylkill extended their lead as Grace Fenstermacher (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Nativity BVM) scored Schuylkill's third goal of the contest, putting them ahead 3-1. Just over a minute later, at 57:06, Clarks Summit responded with a goal of their own, narrowing the score to 3-2.

Both teams continued to trade shots, but it was Clarks Summit who managed to level the score, finding the back of the net at 72:17, making it a 3-3 game.

With the game hanging in the balance and both teams eager to take advantage, Miller came through for Schuylkill once again. Her goal gave Schuylkill a one-point edge.

Clarks Summit had several shots on goal in the closing minutes, but the Schuylkill defense stood tall, limiting their opportunities, and preserving the lead. Schuylkill went on to defeat Clarks Summit 4-3.
